Workshop on PTSD treatment to be held Friday, Dec. 7 at Hotel Roanoke

“Trauma and Treatment Across the Lifespan,” an evidence-based treatment workshop for post-traumatic stress disorder as it applies to adults, families and children, will be held Friday, Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hotel Roanoke.

The event is sponsored by the Radford University Mental Health Consortium and is made possible through a King Endowment Grant awarded to the Radford University School of Nursing.

E.C. Hurley, Ph.D. will discuss the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a therapy approved by the Department of Defense for the treatment of PTSD. April Gerlock, Ph.D., will share her research on intimate partner violence and PTSD, speaking to the needs of families in treatment. Russell Jones, Ph.D., a national researcher and consultant for traumatized children, will discuss cognitive behavioral treatment for children. In addition to the featured presenters, there will be a lunch session featuring local experts with the Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program.
