Sixteen New River Community College students have completed requirements for the three-semester practical nursing program at the college. They received certificates and participated in a pinning ceremony on July 26.
Practical nursing graduates were Shaunna Leigh Andrews of Radford, Janessa Kaye Bolt of Willis, Natalie Dawn Breeden of Dublin, Casey Jean Calfee of Radford, Vickie Hill Harvey of Radford, Rhonda Lynn Hungate of Bland, Shannon Nicole Jarels of Blacksburg, Brandy Avants Kastilahn of Radford, Haley Danielle Lawson of Pulaski, Ashley Linette Ligon of Blacksburg, Kristen Ann Litton of Wytheville, Cynthia Ann Miles of Blacksburg, Amy Jo Plaugher of Blacksburg, Cynthia Lea Dame Reed of Christiansburg, Stephani Michelle Richards of Radford and Rechell LeeAnn Williams of Radford.
Three practical nursing students had special roles in the ceremony. Ligon was chosen by her peers to give the graduation address, and Harvey sang “Angel By Your Side.” Breeden led the nurses in reciting the Florence Nightingale Pledge.
NRCC’s certificate program prepares students to qualify as contributing members of a health team, rendering patient care in a variety of health service facilities. These students are eligible to take the Virginia Board of Nursing examination leading to licensing as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
