CHRISTIANSBURG — Movie Starz Video on North Franklin Street beside Kroger in Christiansburg will close its doors as soon as it has sold its remaining stock, according to Phil Gardner, store manager.

It will be the third movie rental to shut down at that location.

Signs outside the store and along the side of North Franklin Street  were advertising a 20 to 40 percent off “Store Closing Sale” Thursday.

Josh Mullins, the store’s shift manager, said the sale began Monday afternoon and would continue until everything in the store was gone.

Since 2007, Mullins said he has worked at five different video rental stores — including the three which have operated in this location — and all of them have had a similar fate.

  1. Video stores have become obsolete.
Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, all of the streaming and DVD delivery services
    have forever changed the category.
