Virginia Tech victims’ families spur insurance inquiry
ROCKY MOUNT — A lawyer for the families of two Virginia Tech students shot to death on campus five years ago persuaded a judge Tuesday to permit an inquiry into what state insurance policies might exist to pay damages.
A jury last month found Virginia Tech negligent for failing to adequately warn students about the actions of a gunman who killed two people on campus on April 16, 2007.
Robert Hall, who represents the families, challenged the state’s position, saying he believes it is obligated to pay up to applicable insurance policy limits. He asked for access to state insurance policy records related to university officials.
