Hundreds at Virginia Tech have eyes on cloudy skies, hoping to spot Venus

BLACKSBURG — Several hundred people have spent this evening at Virginia Tech’s Hahn Hall hoping the clouds will part enough to glimpse Venus’ rare transit across the face of the sun.

“We’re hoping for the best,” organizer Brandon Bear, a doctoral student in astrophysics, said moments before the transit was to start at 6:03 p.m.
