Blacksburg Touchdown Club to host home-game tailgate parties
The Blacksburg Touchdown Club, according to the club’s website, provides support to Blacksburg High School, Blacksburg Middle School and youth league football programs in Blacksburg.
Membership Coordinator Tracy McCoy said the club has about 50 individual and 15 corporate members.
Those members help support the programs financially by funded specific projects like their recent “helmet program,” McCoy added.
McCoy said anyone can join the club. More information about joining can be found by visiting the club’s website and clicking on the “membership” tab, McCoy said.
The varsity and junior varsity programs at BHS, and the BMS football team, had a helmet shortage entering the season, but the program was able to raise funds to provide enough helmets to cover the shortfall.
In addition to raising support financially for the programs, McCoy said the club hopes to increase parent participation, community involvement, generate school spirit and assist in building enthusiasm for and within parents and family.
The club hopes to make their presence known through tailgate parties, which will be held prior to home varsity football games at BHS.
Last Friday, the club held their first of six tailgate parties during the six home games of the 2012 BHS football season as the Bruins faced E.C. Glass.
All tailgate parties will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Bill Brown Stadium parking lot.
Aug. 24 – Giles High
Aug. 31 – Liberty High
Sept. 14 – Patrick Henry High
Oct. 5 – Hidden Valley High
Oct. 26 – Pulaski County High
Tickets prices are $36 for a six-game package, $7 per person for an individual game if purchased two weeks in advance and $8 per person on the day of the game. Game day purchases are limited to the first 50 walk-up customers.
Ticket prices include food, beverages and entertainment. Tickets can be purchased by emailing membership@blacksburgfootball.net or contacting Tracy McCoy at 315-0157.
Tickets will also be sold at the school’s orientations on Aug. 2, 9 and 29.
