Crumb and Get It set to serve cookies at Paul Ryan rally

Posted August 21, 2012

Paul Ryan

The Radford bakery Crumb and Get It, which attracted national attention last week when it declined an offered visit from Vice President Joe Biden, is back in the news.

It’s set to serve cookies at a scheduled appearance by Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential candidate, in Roanoke County.

We had photos from the store’s recent grand opening here.

UPDATE: We hear from the Romney campaign that Chris McMurray, owner of Crumb & Get It bakery, will speak at the event with Ryan and will talk about his business.

  1. I wish Crumb and Get it would stay in Roanoke. I hate that they are using politics to get business. Shame on them!

  4. I totally agree with Laura Pynn and I am so over the political circus with Crumb & Get It…Get some class and gracefulness for when one seeks photo op after photo op they tend to show a side to them that is not impressive or envied…Instead we all have a tendency to say, ” Oh dear word not him again!” Next headline please!!!

  6. This whole thing makes me ill. No class at all. And if you think they were standing up for small businesses, you are sorely mistaken. All they were really doing is showing their ignorance towards President Obama’s statements during his trip to Roanoke. I live in the NRV and no matter how much I may crave a cookie, I’ll get it elsewhere.

  7. Not long before this whole flap, a good friend of ours recommended them, and said they might be able to work with our food allergy issues. But now? I won’t go there to find out. I generally deplore businesses that inject politics into their business image, regardless of political lean…and I don’t patronize them. Same for religion…I want to do business, not do business and get religion with it…church is there for that. Just my opinion though. But perhaps the short-term spike in sales helps them do better this time, since they had that bankruptcy previously with the same business.

  8. You people are absolutely AMAZING… I am a small business person in Florida… I NEVER would have allowed a visit by Biden or Obama to my business…THIS IS MY BUSINESS, AND I DID BUILD IT. If that business failed, do you think that Obama or Biden would take credit for the failed business??? NO WAY! The guy made it very clear last week as to why he didn’t want Biden at his shop… AND YES, he was standing up for the “You didn’t build this” thing… ABSOLUTELY. It’s pretty obvious that you all are Dems who’s feelings were hurt because he didn’t partake of your man’s ideals… SHAME ON YOU! MORE businesses need to do this type of thing.

  10. Chris McMurray filed bankruptcy after skipping out on his rent in Blacksburg. It does not seem like he built his business all by himself. The companies who did not get paid after extending him credit in good faith should be gagging everytime they hear his name.

  11. Good luck with that post about them stiffing the landlord at Kent Square, Chris. I was the second person to post this morning and they took my post down. Could be because they haven’t visited their own archives yet.

  12. Chris McMurray did not build his second attempt at a bakery by himself. All of the creditors he stiffed by filing bankruptcy and leaving town helped build the Radford location. Every customer that comes into the store help build the business. The rhetoric has gotten old and I will not step foot in this place.
