Steam blow to impact traffic around Stanger Street tomorrow
The pipe-cleaning process, which involves venting steam through an exhaust pipe in a trench underground, will begin at 7 a.m. and is expected to be complete before 5 p.m., according to a town of Blacksburg news release.
The steam blow will occur in the parking lot in front of the old military building near Stanger Street. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be temporarily halted on Stanger Street for periods of five to 15 minutes throughout the day, directed by flaggers. Nearby roads Perry Street and Old Turner Street may be blocked during active steam blows.
The Blacksburg release advises motorists to take alternate routes around the steam blow area.
Each blow will last between five and 15 minutes. After each, the steam system will be turned off to cool for 30 to 60 minutes before the process is repeated.
Individuals should not enter the steam site without the proper hearing protection and should avoid standing underneath the exhaust plume, the release stated.
