‘Parallel heartbreak’ hits Hokies’ radio duo

This is the 25th season that Bill Roth and Mike Burnop have announced Virginia Tech football games together.

But it has been unlike all the rest.

The past few years, their off-air conversations were often not about the Hokies but about chemo-therapy.

Burnop’s wife, Ellen, and Roth’s sister Lynda were nonsmokers who were battling lung cancer.

  1. This is the greatest broadcast team in College football and maybe football period. I listen to a lot of football on satellite radio and none can compare. They are a true treasure for the Hokie Nation.
