Deck collapses in Blacksburg with no major injuries
A few dozen Blacksburg party-goers got a surprise Thursday night when the deck they were standing on collapsed, blocking the entrance to two apartments.
The collapse occurred at about 11:45 p.m. in the 500 block of Houston Street, in a predominantly Virginia Tech student rental area. Between 30 and 50 people were reported to have been standing on the deck when it fell about eight feet, Blacksburg Police Sgt. Steve Workman said.
One female was treated at the scene for a minor injury, but no one was transported to the hospital, Workman said.
The collapse was trending on Twitter Friday under the hashtag #RememberTheDeck. Posts included photos said to be of police at the scene of the damaged deck, and of fire fighters helping a young man out of a window.
