Seriously, VDOT should with this project begin to implement landscaping offers for home owners who are caught in this sort of situation. That burden being on homeowners who need to obscure the increased capacity road isn't fair. VDOT should develop three or four "package" options that a homeowner could choose from. Examples might be:

Package One: Post and board horse-style street facing fence with low tall ornamental grass, pine and maple trees.

Package Two: Dry stack stone street facing fence with Pines and crepe myrtle and oak trees

Package Three: Stacked timber fence with pines, holly and ornamental tall grass

Etc...each package would allow for three or four trees, three or four shrubs and three or four additionals- either ornamental trees or tall (6 foot variety) ornamental grasses.

It would just make it prettier overall when done and allow some degree for privacy for homeowners.

By the time they get done with the construction and then throw in the EASEMENT... They won't be able to put a potted plant on the front porch legally. Just BUY the place already. Would probably save VDOT money in the long run. Or buy the house and let 'em build farther down the hill. Enough is enough. At some point (measurable in feet!) it just becomes ridiculous
