Pulaski police officer injured

Posted February 21, 2013

A Pulaski police officer was injured Wednesday while assisting a motorist who had locked his keys inside of his vehicle.

An unnamed officer responded at 4:48 p.m. to the 1000 block of Memorial Drive to unlock a Dodge Ram pickup truck, according to a Pulaski police news release.

Due to the height of the truck, the officer had to climb into its bed to use the unlocking tool. He fell when attempting to climb down out of the bed, according to the release.

A female citizen called police, and officers from the Pulaski Police Department, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police responded to the scene after getting no response from the injured officer on the police radio, according to the release.

The officer was found lying on the pavement. He was transported to Lewis Gale Hospital Pulaski, where he was treated and released. The officer will be off-duty for an unspecified amount of time due to his injuries.

Police declined to release the officer’s name.
