The Black House’s face lift will begin soon

The Black House has stood like a car on cinder blocks for nearly a decade just down the street from Blacksburg Town Hall and the town library.

Renovation has been the goal ever since the town moved the Queen Anne-style home, built by a scion of the town’s founding family, across the street in 2002. The town would fix up the exterior, restore the interior and create a historic gem.

Fundraising sputtered. A recent concerted push, highlighted by a black-tie gala last year attended by many of the town’s movers and shakers, had the misfortune to coincide with a weak economy.
