Farmland is more valuable than Applebee’s

I recently read the article on the financial woes that Montgomery County is having, and, to quote County Administrator Craig Meadows, the county “maxed out the credit card” (“Montgomery County officials lament lack of money,” Sept. 28).

I somewhat sympathized with the article until I read that Supervisor Chris Tuck said he hopes the county’s finances will be eased by permission the county is seeking from the General Assembly to allow liquor-by-the-drink sales at restaurants located near several Interstate 81 exits.

  1. Montgomery County is strange, money is a issue and the county has schools that are falling apart. The juvenile center has not been upgraded at all. The county just spent 30 million on the courthouse and another 20 on the old courthouse. So with this in mind maybe it is time for a change in county goverment.
