Montgomery County should reconsider park gift
Montgomery County might be strapped for cash, but the board of supervisors has demonstrated acutely shortsighted vision by turning down free land for a park not once but twice.
The gift of 44 acres behind the Thomas Lane neighborhood of Prices Fork first came before supervisors a couple of years ago from Anne Price Yates. She is a granddaughter of Harvey Price, a former dean of agriculture at Virginia Tech who once farmed the property. She offered it for a park and asked that it be named in her ancestor’s honor. The Prices Fork community already bears the family name.
Supervisors turned her down.

Oh My GOSH…how can they do that?! Someone didn’t put on their thinking cap. The county should accept the offer and then place it in a 10 year conservation easement if they don’t have the funds now to make into a park. There are land conservancies all across the country that have funding available to localities and groups – they could easily arrange an agreement and preserve this valuable open space in the midst of a rapidly growing region. Anyone?!?!?!?!??!?!?!
