Christiansburg’s scheduling conflict

Many Montgomery County residents likely will want to attend school board meetings in the coming months. They will line up to testify and listen intently as spending plans for cash-strapped schools are hashed out. Civically engaged residents of Christiansburg, however, will have to hope the town does not get busy with its own budget simultaneously. Last week, town council decided to continue meeting at the same time as the school board.

Both bodies meet the first and third Tuesdays of every month. Last spring, council considered making life easier for everyone by shifting to another meeting night, but on a 4-3 vote, with Mayor Richard Ballengee breaking the tie, it chose to stick with its traditional meeting days.
