The Black House will be an eyesore no more
By Christian Trejbal
On Tuesday, Blacksburg finally will break ground on renovations at the Alexander Black House. I thought this day would never arrive.
Black, a descendant of one of the town’s founding families, was a prominent late 19th and early 20th century businessman involved in several ventures. Among them, he founded the Bank of Blacksburg, which survives today as the National Bank of Blacksburg.

So glad this is beginning. The house – if you don’t know it – is really a great example of the period and our region’s early entrepreneurs successes. It will be an awesome addition to the local cultural heritage and joins the museum in Christiansburg, the Odd Fellows House restoration and other projects that are keeping our regional history in good shape and accessible to all. As a local I’m going to give what I can…if you read this…even a pledge of $10 can help them achieve this plan.

I cannot wait to see the “Old Lady” in all her glory. It certainly has been a long time coming! Maybe citizens could help with the lawn as volunteers and also local businesses could dontate materials (with a little persuasion for free advertising: Donated by ______________) displayed. Good Luck!

I do hope they get this fixed along with the gardens. The town can make a lot of money holding weddings and events there. Weddings at historic places are very nice.
