Photos: Dayspring Elementary students read their way around the world
Dayspring Elementary students (as well as older students and teachers) recently spent an exciting week reading their way around the world as part of Readers Are Leaders Week. The theme this year was “Reading Takes Us Places.” Every page that was read counted as one mile. Students kept track of their journey with a personal passport. Throughout the week they traveled more than 200,000 miles! Speakers representing each of the five continents came and read to the children each morning. There were speakers from Brazil, Dubai, and Scotland, as well as special readers representing Australia and Ethiopia. Another special treat was the surprise visit of ninth-grade students who, mid-way through the week, read their favorite stories to the elementary classes. The week ended with illustrator Stephanie Dicken sharing her story along with a behind-the-scenes look at book illustrating. Reading is a great way to see the world and explore different cultures! The picture of Hindi writing says “Dayspring Christian Academy.”
