Blacksburg High School’s Sports Marketing class will be hosting a Quidditch tournament today to honor the life of former Kipps Elementary School physical education teacher Casey Jones.

Jones died March 19 after suffering a heart attack. He worked in the Montgomery County Public School System for 27 years.

The tournament will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bill Brown Stadium. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Casey Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Quidditch is a game played in the popular Harry Potter movies and at college campuses across the country.

Y-Street, a youth-led initiative in Virginia that promotes a healthier lifestyle, is sponsoring the event. Alexis Osimani and Emily Mertes, two Y-Street members, are students at BHS and will be managing the event.

There is no charge to watch or play in the tournament. However, students will be asking for donations.

Community members unable to attend the tournament, but would like to donate, are encouraged to mail donations to BHS. All donations should be addressed to BHS Sports Marketing, ATTN: Kim Radford, 3109 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
