Last month, students in Tamara Seay’s third-grade class at Falling Branch Elementary School welcomed visitors from Virginia Tech.

In recognition of Virginia Agriculture Literacy Week, Dr. Susan Short, associate vice president for engagement at Virginia Tech, came to Ms. Seay’s class to read “From Our Fields…to You” by Kellie Worrell.

Conversations included what the students’ favorite vegetables were and why it is important to buy local and fresh foods. According to these third-graders, corn won the vote for most popular vegetable, followed by green beans.

The students received a special treat of popcorn to take home with them, as well as a surprise visit from The Hokie Bird, who also enjoys corn on the cob!
