Dale Vipperman, earth science teacher at Christiansburg High School, was recently named a Super Teacher by the Virginia Lottery. Vipperman is one of eight teachers in the state to receive this recognition.

His career began in the Navy, but a series of circumstances led Vipperman to education, where he found his calling as a high school educator. He is in his sixth year of teaching with Montgomery County Public Schools. Vipperman is known for his popular trout lessons – he brings in the eggs so that the students may observe the hatching and growth of the fish before releasing them into a cold water stream.

“Mr. Vipperman is both compassionate and disciplined about his students and their futures,” said Mike Stanley, assistant principal.

The Virginia Lottery Super Teacher Award was created to honor outstanding Virginia public school teachers for their dedication and commitment to area students. Vipperman received $2,000 and a $2,000 classroom credit courtesy of the Virginia Lottery and their partners in the Super Teacher program.
