Larry Vest, scholarship chairman of Elks Lodge #1067 Pulaski, has announced that Pierce Rigney, a 2012 graduate of Pulaski County High School, has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Pulaski Elks Lodge Scholarship.

Rigney is the son of Susan Marie Rigney of Pulaski. He has maintained honor-roll status from ninth to 12th grade and finished his high school studies with a 3.71 grade-point average. His laudable GPA is also supported by his athletic ability, volunteer work, and achievements as an Eagle Scout. He will enter school at the University of Richmond and has the opportunity of playing football for the Spiders. His goal is to obtain his degree and apply it toward a career with international law enforcement.

The Pulaski Elks Scholarship is funded by generous Pulaski Elks members and residents of Pulaski. The Pulaski scholarship program endowments began more than 24 years ago in honor of Pulaski Lodge members and from contributions by Elk family members to benefit Pulaski County students and programs for Pulaski children.

The inception of the scholarships were in honor of Lodge Brother O.C. Brewer and Kate Owens, who has family members in the Pulaski Elks Lodge. The programs and scholarships have matured and grown to support such activities as summer youth programs, scholarships, and grants to history education and civic projects for Pulaski students.
