Shelor Motor Mile partners with area schools for car giveaway celebration Saturday
Shelor Motor Mile, a large automotive group located in Christiansburg, will be celebrating the second year success of a community partnership program with 31 area schools. The celebration is Sept. 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Shelor Motor Mile Toyota, 2230 Roanoke St. Presentations from local school partners will begin at 10, and the drawing for the new Scion IQ will be at 10:30.
The winner of the Car Giveaway in 2011 was Sue Kass, a teacher from Blacksburg Middle School.
Shelor Motor Mile will continue this program again for the 2012-13 school year. A Talent Show Competition on Oct. 20 for high school students will be added this year. The entire program is branded as Growing the Future: Community Partnership. All public schools in Montgomery, Pulaski, Giles, Floyd counties and Radford City are invited to participate. For more information on this program, visit www.shelor.com, Growing the Future.
More than 20,000 tickets have been sold to people interested in winning a new car and supporting a local, public school. The tickets have been sold at many schools’ events this year, and 100 percent of the money collected has gone directly to 31 participating schools in the New River Valley.
Shelor Motor Mile’s commitment to local schools began more than 10 years ago with the $1000 scholarship program for 10 graduating seniors each year. Two years ago, Shelor Motor Mile added a donation program for student’s family and friends who purchase vehicles, incentives for faculty and staff, marketing materials for promoting this program and a fundraising program for a chance to win a new car.
More than $200,000, in the past year alone, has been donated to elementary, middle and high schools in our area because of this program. Shelor Motor Mile considers the program an investment in the future by supporting education and children in our local communities.
