Blacksburg High students collecting donations for Thanksgiving Baskets
The Blacksburg High School Student Council is holding its annual Thanksgiving Baskets food drive until Nov. 19.
The students will collect food items often used in Thanksgiving meals to create baskets, which are then donated to the families of students across Montgomery County.
Students are also accepting monetary donations to provide a $6.50 canned ham to each family given a Thanksgiving Basket.
Donations should be brought to the high school no later than Nov. 19, and students will begin assembling baskets for delivery on Nov. 20.
Each basket will contain the following donated items:
Green beans or peas (two cans)
Yams or sweet potatoes (two cans)
Corn (two cans)
Cranberry sauce (one can)
Stuffing mix (two boxes)
Biscuit or cornbread mix (2 packages)
Instant mashed potatoes (one box)
Rice (one bag)
Pie crust mix (one package) – No frozen or prepared crusts
Pie filling (one can of pumpkin, apple or berry)
Tea bags (one box of family-sized bags)
Hot chocolate mix (one box)
Bag of sugar (small bag)
Gravy mix (one packet)
Soup (five cans – two cans cream of mushroom, one can chicken or beef broth and two cans of chicken noodle soup)
