Blacksburg students deliver Thanksgiving Baskets
BLACKSBURG — Students at Blacksburg High School began delivering “Thanksgiving Baskets” to families in Montgomery County on Tuesday with the help of local law enforcement.
Members of the Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Montgomery County police departments delivered the baskets to area schools Tuesday afternoon. The baskets are given to some families of MCPS students. Some families request the service, while others are already qualified to receive them based on need.
The Thanksgiving Basket program was created about 20 years ago by a former member of the Blacksburg High student council.
That tradition continues each year during Thanksgiving week.
This year, students collected enough donated food items to create 382 baskets — 100 more than they were able to create and deliver to local families during last year’s program.
