John Halligan will present “Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Youth Depression” for adults only on Dec. 6 from 7 to  8:30 p.m. at Radford High School Auditorium.

The presentation is sponsored by John N. Dalton Intermediate School and is part of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program implemented a year ago. The program is funded by a Department of Criminal Justice Services grant secured by Radford City Schools and NRV Community Services.

Halligan’s son, Ryan, died by suicide on Oct. 7, 2003, after being bullied by classmates at school and online. He was 13 years old.

Halligan’s presentation will cover the lessons learned too late for his family regarding how to deal with bullying, cyberbullying and teen depression. Parents will be empowered with strategies to take preventive actions with their own children.

Halligan will also share age-appropriate information at an assembly for Radford City students in grades 7-10 on Friday, Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. His presentation is about his son’s life and death, and how, as students and bystanders, they can help prevent future tragedies of this nature.

For more information, call Principal Greg Payne or guidance counselor Terry Kimbleton at 731-3651.
