Yost announces art contest winners

Daena Thompson; 12th Grade; Blacksburg High School; 1st Place 9-12

Del. Joseph Yost, R-Blacksburg, held an art contest this fall for students in his district that covers Radford, Giles County, and parts of Montgomery and Pulaski Counties. The theme was “Virginia landmarks.” The Giles County Arts Council picked the winners, who will have their art displayed in the General Assembly Building in Richmond and will be invited in January to visit the Capitol and see their artwork. Here they are:

Grades 9-12

* Daena Thompson; 12th Grade; Blacksburg High School; 1st Place 9-12

* “Giles County Courthouse” Pimolpen Sinnantasen; 11th Grade; Giles High School; 2nd Place 9-12

* “New River” Emily Harrell’ 12th Grade; Giles High School; 3rd Place Category 9-12

* “Robert Sheffey Cabin” Michael Cumbee; 12th Grade; Giles High School; Honorable Mention Category 9-12

* “D-Day Soldier” Tristan Gilvary; 8th Grade; Giles High School; 1st Place Category 6-8

* “Monticello” Amber Sirry; 8th Grade; Giles High School; 2nd Place 6-8

* Andrew Cox; 8th Grade; Giles High School; 3rd Place Category 6-8
