Christiansburg High School presents “Pride and Prejudice”
The Christiansburg High School Theatre department is pleased to present Pride and Prejudice, a stage version of Jane Austen’s beloved story of love, romance, and the importance of being true to one’s self.
The show will be presented in the school auditorium Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m. There will also be a show on Sunday, March 24, at 2:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for students and $7 for adults. Special rates are available for groups of 15 or more.
Fans of Pride and Prejudice will enjoy the familiar storyline and will appreciate the subtle changes made for the stage. Those who are new to the story will be charmed by the Bennett family, especially the head-strong Elizabeth (Kelli Buhrdorf). Her mother, Mrs. Bennett, (Lindsay Anderson) is determined to get her daughters married. Elizabeth, Jane (Victoria Shockley) and Lydia (Cati Bishop) are lovely girls in a time when a woman’s only possible career is matrimony. To be a wife was success! Anything else was failure. Jane and her Mr. Bingley (Matthew Jordan) and Lydia with her Mr. Wickham (Nicholas Hodges) are quite content with things as they are, but not Elizabeth! She actually refuses to marry Mr. Collins (Caleb Linkous), whom she openly deplores, and Mr. Darcy (Brett Carlston), whom she secretly adores. The play is the story of the duel between Elizabeth and her pride, and Darcy and his prejudice. Each gives in before the play is over and pride and prejudice meet halfway.
In addition to the cast members listed above, the show features seniors Avery Leffler, Ciara Maxwell, Amanda Reinarsten, and Jamie Wiggert. Juniors in the show are Chris Ferrell, Kate Feuchtenberger, Jordan McCracken, Jordan Tuck, and Delaney Witten. Sophomores include Michaela Boyle, Devon Clemons, Kendra Hale, Jason Hamed, Kelli Hyre, Matthew Jordan, Janae Moreno, Taylor Stoneking, and Farrah Wakefield. Freshmen cast members are Kailey Absher and Hannah Peters.
Assisting with the technical aspects of the show are Jenna Foster, Karen Talley, Kenzie White, and Mark Zimmerman.
The show is being directed by Mrs. Makala Vest Witten, CHS English and Drama teacher. She is being assisted by Kelly Nickel, CHS Class of 2009, who is a student at Radford University and an aspiring English and Drama teacher.
