High school theater groups team up for fundraiser
Students performers from four New River Valley high schools plan to team up today for the first Cameron Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship One-Act Festival at Pulaski County High School.
The PCHS drama team is scheduled to perform, “The Lady of the Lake and Other British Tales,” which took second place in this year’s Group 4A Conference 24 competition and tied for third at the Region 4A-North contest.
Students from Blacksburg High School will perform “Cinderella Word Combat Boots,” while Christiansburg High School will showcase its performance of “Women and War.” Both plays advanced to the Region 3A-West competition, scheduled for Saturday at Magna Vista High School.
Radford High School will add its play, “Greater Tuna,” to the mix, which they will also perform Saturday at the Region 1A-West competition at Galax High School.
Admission to the four-school festival is a donation to the Cameron Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship fund. Concessions will be sold with proceeds also going to the fund.
Cameron Fitzwater was a student involved in Theatre Arts at Pulaski County High School during his senior year and was killed in a car accident in April 2012.
The scholarship in his name awards four outstanding seniors $1,000 each in scholarships each school year.
The festival is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Pulaski County High School.
