Christiansburg High School girls softball preview
The Lady Demons softball team is working hard and looking forward to an exciting and successful 2012 campaign. With a good mixture of veterans and youngsters on the roster the Lady Demons should only improve as the season progresses.
The Lady Demons will be led by seniors Paige Wright and Meghan McFee who were both key members of the basketball team this past winter.
Wright, who was an all River Ridge District and honorable mention all region infielder last season, will hold down the shortstop position while leading off in the batting order.
McFee will be returning to the field this season at first base after being limited last season to the DH role due to injury. She will be batting clean-up for the Lady Demons, who will be relying on her power to drive in runs.
Rounding out the infield will be senior Morgan Fenton at second base and freshman Brandi Benedict at third.
Handling the catching duties will be junior Makennah Hellman. Hellman was a first team all River Ridge District and second team all Region selection a year ago.
In the circle this season will be sophomore Tiffany Brown who was a second team all River Ridge District selection last season. Also seeing some pitching time will be Fenton along with junior Sydney Lawrence and sophomore Brittany Campbell. Lawrence will also see some time in the outfield while Campbell also plays second base and outfield.
Anchoring the outfield in center will be senior Rachael Smith. Rachael covers a lot of ground while providing some speed on the base paths. Junior
Jessica Ratcliff will be joining Rachael in the outfield along with senior Kacey Linkenhoker. Kacey returns to action this season after missing last year due to injury.
Joining in the mix this season will be sophomores Olivia Dunbar in the outfield and third base and Christina Poole who will see time at second base and the outfield.
