Emily Coe is ‘In the Zone Bowler of the Week’
This week’s column will focus on bowling tournaments at the NRV SuperBowl and salute the local bowlers who have done well in those tournaments.
First, I want to salute a youth bowler as the “In the Zone Bowler of the Week.” Emily Coe performed well on the lanes in the Deli-Mart/Wade’s MDA Care Tournament. The youngster won the tournament in the youth division in the charity event. Emily, who is one of the most successful bowlers in league play, won the distinction for her fundraising efforts in the event.
Over the past two years, Emily has raised over $1,870 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She is to be recognized for these generous contributions.
The next five finishers in the event (youth ) were Cayla Hicks, Danielle Perdue, Emily Lovern and Brittney Stike.
The senior division of the event was won by Patricia Ball. The next five finishers in order were: Jerry Mabry, Oliver Edwards, Don Strock, Danny Crawford, and Bill Dalton.
The Open Division was won by one of the bowling center’s most consistent high scorers all winter. Nat Kesling defeated Ingrid Jackson to grab the top spot. Cherry Hollandsworth rounded out the top trio. Other high finishers were: Butch Keith, Krystal Stephens, Frankie Hall, and Ronnie Horton.
The winner of the weekly Bowl for the Gold Tournament was Ronnie Duncan. Elbert Griffith and Bill Dalton rounded the first three finishers in the 24-person field.
Last weekend, the NRV SuperBowl was host to the Virginia State Moose Tournament. Despite having competitors from around the state, the local bowlers dominated the event in all divisions. The singles event, which included 122 competitors saw the following local bowlers capture the top five positions.
First place went to Matt McCoy, followed in order by Robbie Howell, Andy Cox, and Steve Hollandsworth.
The senior division’s top two positions were taken by local bowlers John Perfator and Jerry Mabry. The ladies division also saw its champion and runner-up coming from the NRV: Renee Smith and Christy Dillon.
In next week’s column, I will salute the doubles, all-events and team winners from the tournament.
Until next week, good bowling to everyone!!
-Randy Thompson, special to The Burgs
