Hokies’ signee Marshall Wood to seek release

Marshall Wood, the Rustburg High School basketball standout who signed with Virginia Tech last fall, said Tuesday he intends to ask the university for his release this week.
Wood, who averaged 24.1 points as a senior this year, said he discussed the matter with his parents after Tech fired Seth Greenberg as its men’s basketball coach Monday. Wood has not ruled out playing for Virginia Tech if he likes Greenberg’s successor, but he wants his release so he can talk to other schools.
