FC Fiasco defeated Triple T FC by 1-0 in a hard-fought finals game May 2 to win the Spring 2012 Championship title of the New River United Soccer Association’s Division I Competitive Adult Soccer League. FC Fiasco played solidly after fighting their way through the semifinals, with only one regular season loss.

“We have an amazing group of guys,” said Shilo Romantini, team manager and local business owner. “Every one of our players gives 110 percent on the field. We’re a little older than most of our opponents, but we use our experience to our advantage.” With an average team age of 33, they are about 10 years beyond the adult league’s average age. With age comes experience, and with experience comes success, Romantini says.

FC Fiasco team members have also found success off the field. Their titles include local business owner, branch manager, and engineering project manager. If you stop into Capone’s Fine Jewelry on Main Street in Blacksburg, you’re likely to bump into Austin Capone, co-owner and jeweler. If you visit Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery in Blacksburg, you might see Jeff “no nonsense” Nosenzo, branch manager. If you’ve built, are building, or are planning to build a house in the New River Valley, then you’ve probably heard of Jason Boyle, president of Green Valley Builders. If you’re looking to purchase a vehicle that drives itself or to learn more about the latest in unmanned systems, you may have even read about TORC Robotics, a growing technology start-up in the Corporate Research Center at Virginia Tech, where Mike Avitabile is head of product development and Jesse Hurdus is a project manager.

FC Fiasco will be on the field again in September in search of their fourth NRUSA championship title.
