Local triathlete finishes third at national championship
Cortney Martin (45) of Blacksburg, Virginia finished third in her age group at USA Triathlon Sprint National Championships in Burlington, Vermont on August 19, 2012 in a time of 1:10:52 for the 750 m swim, 20k bike, and 5k run. She had the fastest run time (20:31) and second fastest bike time (33:19) of the group of 56 athletes, ages 45-49.
The prior day, on August 18, she competed in the USA Triathlon Olympic Distance National Championship, finishing 11th out of 114 with a combined time of 2:22:01 and the 4th fastest bike time. Both races results qualified her for the International Triathlon Union Age Group World Championships in London in September 2013. This October 16, she will compete in the ITU Olympic Distance World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.
