BASSETT – The Bassett Bengals had a choice to either attempt to tie the score against unbeaten Christiansburg or go for the win.

The Bengals went for the win, but Christiansburg stopped the two-point conversion attempt and held on to beat Bassett 28-27 on Friday night.

Chris Martin’s 9-yard TD run for Bassett made it a one-point game with 1:35 to play.

Bassett tried to run in the two-point conversion, but Christiansburg’s Jordan Fenton made the game-saving tackle to preserve the win for the Blue Demons (4-0).

Kory Hendricks had scored on a 45-yard run with less than eight minutes left to give the Blue Demons a 28-21 lead.

Christiansburg’s Joey Augustin rushed for 102 yards and one TD on 20 carries. He also caught a TD pass. Teammate De’Quan Green-Gause rushed for 111 yards on 12 carries. Hendricks rushed for 74 yards and one TD on six carries.

Mack Lawson rushed for 246 yards and three TDs for Bassett (1-3). Lawson also completed nine of 17 passes for 170 yards.
