Pathway Christian Academy recently participated in season-ending volleyball tournaments and district play, which resulted in a one-two punch.

The Lady Panthers Middle School team participated in the VACA district playoffs this past weekend in Roanoke. After advancing to the semis on Friday, tournament play resumed Saturday where Pathway faced a very competitive Faith Christian squad that they have had trouble beating in recent years.

After splitting their regular season matchups this season, the path to the championship finale would indeed go through the Faith Christian Warriors. With Faith Christian enjoying home court advantage, Pathway wasted little time in taking the match 2-0 to advance to the championship match where they would face the #1 seed Westover Christian Academy. However, after a very strong showing, they came up short and had to settle for the runner-up spot. This was the best season of record for the middle school team that boasted five eighth-graders that will take their talents to the next level. Congratulations to the Pathway Panthers for becoming the 2012 VACA South Region runner-up for middle school volleyball.

Sixty miles down the road from the middle school competition, the Lady Panthers varsity volleyball team was competing in the JCA Volleyball Tournament in Ripplemead. They, too, had advanced to the championship game, where they were facing the Ballard Eagles from Ballard, W.Va.

After beating Ballard earlier in this double-elimination tournament, Pathway took care of business early and beat Ballard 2-0 to take the tourney championship. This was a great warm-up tournament as the South Region VACA tournament gets started this week for the varsity programs. This young Pathway Varsity team that will return all players next year is excited as they head into the district playoffs. Congratulations to the Lady Panthers varsity volleyball team on this exciting tournament win and good luck in the VACA playoffs.
