Hokies sputter out against Clemson
Virginia Tech’s defense did all it could at Memorial Stadium, holding an explosive Clemson offense at bay, wanting — needing — the Hokies offense to make a play to shift momentum, flip the field and put some points on the board.
It never happened, and Saturday ended the same way both of last year’s matchups with the Tigers did for the Hokies — with a lopsided loss.
Despite being held to fewer than 300 yards of offense, No. 14 Clemson (6-1, 3-1 ACC) pulled away for a 38-17 win in Death Valley, getting a second-half surge of points spurred on by consistently great field position.
