Martin Scales capitalizes on limited chances

Virginia Tech rusher Martin Scales has seen limited playing time this season, running for 136 yards with only 30 carries. | Matt Gentry, The Roanoke Times
Hit two yards behind the line of scrimmage, Martin Scales didn’t look like he had a chance to get to the first-down marker in overtime last Saturday.
Two Boston College defensive tackles, both weighing 300 pounds, had a shot, but the Hokies’ 222-pound senior bounced out of the first tackle, then dodged the second, pushing his way through a defensive back for a three-yard gain on third-and-one.
“When I watched the video, I was like god dog, how did he get out of that?” running backs coach Shane Beamer said. “It was just refusing to be denied and playing with a purpose. That was a heck of an individual effort. Can’t say enough about it.”
