Virginia Tech’s Ugoka must sit out 9 games
The NCAA has rendered its verdict on Virginia Tech women’s basketball player Uju Ugoka, ordering that she sit out the first nine games of the season. That means she will miss four more games for the Hokies.
Tech (3-2) has been holding Ugoka out of games all season in anticipation of an NCAA punishment of the forward. Tech expected the NCAA would order her to miss as many as nine games.
Ugoka violated the NCAA’s amateurism rules while at one of her former junior colleges, according to Tech. The two-time junior college All-American won’t be eligible to make her Hokies debut until a Dec. 22 game with Wake Forest.
Tech had appealed to the NCAA, asking that she be suspended for fewer than nine games, but the NCAA informed the university Thursday of its decision.
