The Pulaski Lodge members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks invited area youth to compete in a basketball foul-shot contest Jan. 13.
Pulaski County students ages 8-13 were notified by way of their class physical education program of the event in September. The school coaches and physical education teachers were asked to select a school champion to compete in the lodge’s hoop shoot. Students competed within their age and gender classification.
The boys’ school champions for ages 8-9 are Aiden Huff of Snowville Elementary and Alex Sealanden of Pulaski Elementary. The girls’ school champions for ages 8-9 are Olivia Warden of Snowville Elementary and Sierra McDaniel of Pulaski Elementary.
The boys’ school champions for ages 10-11 are Alex Parmelee, Pulaski Elementary; Trent Eversole, Critzer Elementary; Eli Warden, Snowville Elementary; Nicholas Viar, Pulaski Middle; and Nikehlas Hedge, Dublin Middle. The girls’ school champions for ages 10-11 are Tiffany Smith of Dublin Middle School and Skyla Gravely of Critzer Elementary School.
For ages 12-13, Christopher Covey was the boys’ champion for Critzer Elementary, and Breanna Bentley of Pulaski Middle School and Savannah Coffey of Dublin Middle School were the girls’ champions.
After the last ball was shot and the scores were tallied, the Pulaski Elks Lodge #1067 will be represented by six great athletes to bring home the trophies and who will be known as Elks Southwest District Champs.
The six lodge winners are Covey, son of Cheryl and Daniel Covey of Pulaski; Coffey, daughter of Lee Ann and Travis Coffey of Dublin; Viar, son of Candice Viar of Pulaski; Gravely, daughter of Marsha Woodrun of Pulaski; Huff, son of Jacenta and Mitch Huff of Hiwassee; and McDaniel, granddaughter of Sue and Walter Jones of Pulaski. They will compete against seven other lodge champions in Collinsville, Va., on Jan. 26.
Jim Chitwood of the Pulaski Elks stated to the crowd of 80 parents, friends and students how proud he was of their accomplishment and that he hoped the friends and neighbors of these champs will wish these students well in their next shoot-off.
