ACC honors former Tech star Custis
Former Virginia Tech star Ace Custis and former Virginia standout Travis Watson are among this year’s classs of ACC men’s basketball “legends.”
The group, which will be honored at the ACC Tournament, also includes former Maryland coach Gary Williams, former ACC commissioner Gene Corrigan, former Wake Forest coach Carl Tracy, ex-Georgia Tech star Mark Price, ex-North Carolina State standout Dereck Whittenburg, Trajan Langdon (Duke), Terrell McIntyre (Clemson), Mike O’Koren (North Carolina), Gerry Ward (Boston College), Tharon Mayes (Florida State) and Mike Wittman (Miami).
Custis, who starred in the Metro Conference and the Atlantic 10, helped the Hokies win the 1995 NIT and reach the 1996 NCAA tournament. He ranks 10th in Tech history in points (1,706) and third in rebounds (1,177).
Watson, a three-time All-ACC second-team pick, scored 1,546 points and ranks second in UVa history in rebounds (1,115). He helped UVa make one NCAA tournament appearance and three NIT appearances.
