CHRISTIANSBURG — De’Quan Green-Gause made his athletic and academic future official Thursday by accepting a football and academic scholarship to the University of Charleston in West Virginia.
The Blue Demon senior rushed for 1,041 yards and scored 14 touchdowns in the 2012 regular season, however, he said he expects to play outside linebacker for the Golden Eagles.
Green-Gause said he chose the Division II Charleston over the opportunity to walk-on at Old Dominion University and to play for Randolph-Macon.
“It’s a small school, but they’ve given me an opportunity to play, and the coaching staff – I really connected with them,” Green-Gause said.
Green-Gause, who plans to study business, said he was also encouraged by the school’s high post-graduate employment rate.
While the Christiansburg senior said he believes he knows what to expect in his new venture, his former football coach knows exactly what the school can expect from Green-Gause.
“They’re getting a very good athlete. He’s physical, he’s coachable…and he’s an excellent student and a young man of high character. He’s going to represent his family and Christiansburg High School real well,” Christiansburg head coach Tim Cromer said.
