Into the great wide open

I promised to let you know about the cat stroller I ordered as part of my New Year’s resolution. The Double Decker Pet Stroller by Kittywalk Systems Inc. arrived last week, and so far, this is my best purchase of 2008.

There are actually three pieces to this contraption. There are two pet carriers, or Cat Caves, as we have come to call them. These were obviously designed by people who understand cats. Half of the carrier is covered in a mesh net and the other half is covered in a nylon fabric that creates a purr-fect little sanctuary when kitty wants to see be not be seen.

The carriers easily lift on and off the body of the stroller, which is a very sturdy vehicle with nice double wheels that swivel on the front, two foot brakes on the back wheels, and a plush, comfortable handle grip. There are pockets on the back of the carriers for keys, a wallet, cell phone, whatever you would need while out for a stroll. And when you are done, it folds up nicely, too.

Per the instructions that came with the new kitty wheels, we let Thai and my daughter’s cat India sniff around and explore the carriers at their leisure. Thai seemed to really dig it; India not so much. She liked it as long as the door was open. When we closed the exit, she growled like a demon.

On Sunday we decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. So we loaded Thai in the stroller, put coats and leashes on the dogs, and hit the streets of our subdivision.

OMG, Thai was in heaven! He seemed so happy to get out of the house and get a little fresh air. And it was a great way for my family to get some much-needed exercise.

The bliss of his little journey in the stroller seemed to last long after we came back from our outing. Thai played all afternoon like I had not seen him play in years. It was like he got in touch with his inner-kitten.

We even found a use for the other carrier, since it seems ulikely that India will want to go for a stroll. We put the cats’ food dish inside the back of the carrier. The cats can get in to dine, but the dogs cannot get in to steal their food. Ah, the Kitty Café is now open for feline dining pleasure.

The Double Decker Pet Stroller is a big hit at my house. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to take an indoor pet into the great outdoors.

Nona, I know this isn't exactly on topic..but...I know a guy who used to strap a harness on her ferret and take it for a walk outside. Talk about something you don't see everyday. (yes, he *loved* the walk, too)
