Smudge makes a friend
Georgia Chapman of Bedford sent this photo of her kitty.
Georgia writes "Our indoor cat, Smudge, gazes longingly at her outdoor neighborhood friend."
Ah, a closed door is the sworn enemy of every cat. I am sure both kitties wish they were on the other side. Until they get there. Then they want to be on the other side, and so on. It's one of the things you have to love about a cat: They want it all, right now.
Send in your pix of your little sweeties to pets@roanoke.com.

Ed S.Nona, you would have loved the sight out my back window this morning.
I live in a suburban neighborhood in northern Virginia. A couple that recently moved in has several cats, one named Baxter that spends most of his time being a cat in the great outdoors. He's a beautiful, and quite sweet boy that loves to explore the wooded section behind my house. One of the other neighbors warned the couple that there is a fox that lives in the neighborhood, just to ensure Baxter's safety. The owners were not concerned as they had lived in a more rural area and the world is Baxter's playground.
While feeding the pooch this morning, I happened to look outside and see Baxter seated behind one of my hostas...surely mousing or birding. Then I noticed that the fox was only 15 feet away, rooting through the ivy for the stale bread my wife threw out for the birds. Although Baxter was behind a large plant, I'm sure both were aware of the other's presence, but they seemed to have a mutual respect for each other.
It was just another wonderful display of nature that, sadly, too many people don't take time to stop and enjoy.
(Oh, and Baxter is fully aware that our dog cannot open the sliding glass door. If ever a cat could taunt a dog, Baxter does while walking along our patio.)

Nona : →http://blogs.roanoke.com/thehappywag/Ah, there is nothing more delighted than a cat who knows his presence is an irritant to a dog who can't possibly reach him. There is a colony of feral cats that live in a brushy area behind our back yard fence. One of our neighbors feeds these felines, so they contentedly live in the tall grass under the shade of a big tree, waiting for their next meal.
These cats long ago figured out that my two hounds cannot get them, and I swear they seem most content to leisurely stroll around our fence, driving Dexter positively bonkers.
Either Coral's prey drive is less intense, or she figured out by now she can't get those kitties, so she pays them absoulutely no attention.
But Dexter barks like a banshee while these cats look at him with supreme cat-titude, a smug "Come on with it, buddy" look on there little kitty faces.
If Dexter ever figures out he could jump our 4-foot fence (a greyhound holds the world's record for canine high jumping at just over 6 feet) those kitties would have to haul tail up the tree. Unitl then, they amuse themselves with his displeasure.

MikeJust thought i would also tell of my kitties escapde, i have a pit bull whom i put on a chain on my porch every morning to run a little, our cat will step onto the porch and wait for him to see her then run until she knows the chain stops and he will chase her that far, and stop as if he knows how far he can go, when they are in the house together they play and even have slept on the couch together, i guess this is their way of playing also.
