Woofstock this weekend
Get your groove on at Woofstock this weekend. The event is scheduled for Saturday, rain date is Sunday.
The fun starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. in downtown Roanoke's Elmwood Park.
Entertainment includes all-day music by a variety of bands, including Half Moon, The Honest Scoundrels, Lonesome Pine and Burning Bridges. You can spend your tax incentive check at the silent auction, splurge on food and even get your face painted.
Bone up for a game of dog trivia. Give your pooch a complex by entering him or her in the ugly dog contest (but if you do that you should also enter the pet/owner look-alike contest.) There is also a costume contest, but remember it will be warm so be careful to keep your dog cool and hydrated.
Check out the educational seminars, displays, and pick up information on local rescue groups.
Admission for adults is $8, $3 for kids 7 to 12, free for kids under 6. Dogs are admitted free.
Proceeds from admission fees and silent auction, as well as some of the other events, will benefit local animal rescue groups including Roanoke Valley SPCA, Dalmatian Rescue of Southwest Virginia, the Franklin County Humane and Harmony Rescue.
