June 11, 2008Keep 'em on the leash
We got a news release this morning from the Roanoke Police Department that reminds dog owners to keep their four-leggers on a leash while strolling the city streets and parks.
The fine for the pet parent of the errant pooch is fairly stiff and goes up as the summer goes along. Right now, it will cost you a $20 pre-payment plus $69 for court costs for each citation for a loose dog. The court costs spike up to $74 after July 1. That's almost a tank of gas in today's economy. Of course, you can let your dog off leash in Fishburn Park, but the lack of a fence between the park and busy Brambleton Avenue does not really make that a very safe option. With enough community support, there could be a proper public dog park in Roanoke by next summer. |

RG PetComm LLC : →http://www.rgpetcomm.comI think this is a good idea but they should be putting effort into supporting a proper dog park.
Dog walkers and dogs are the most reliable and inexpensive security resource in society. With their daily presence in our parks and on our nature trails, they are the eyes and ears of the community, frequently the first to discover crime and consistently a deterrent to it. We should be encouraging the presence of dog walkers and their dogs rather than implementing public policies that restrict and prohibit them.

Once you use the SmartWalk Manager you begin wonder how you ever did without it.
Good luck to responsible dog owners...
