Ed WelchThis is a shame, a waste, and a blight on the City of Roanoke and its Parks Dept. Highland Park is a beautiful park and has been unmolested by poor planning for decades. This is the worst thing that has happened to the Old SouthWest neighborhood in years. The shortsightedness, crassness, and disregard for public property from the few noisemakers in the community is astounding and without precedent.

EmilyYeah! Dog park! Charlie my chocolate lab will enjoy it EVERY DAY since we live so close to the park. Finally, something that us pet-parents can utilize in the park, since we don't play baseball, soccer or tennis. The fact that a countless number of individuals (quite contrary to the "few noisemakers" comment posted previously) want to utilize an underused park space for a wonderful, green, recreational purpose in a city park is a far cry from "crass" and it certainly is not a disrespect for public property. If anything, this is exactly what a Parks & Rec Department should be doing - evaluating the public usage and interests, and subsequently providing an outlet for those interests. This is no different than putting up a tennis court or baseball field. All of these examples are recreational uses for a recreational location. The residents of Old Southwest should embrace the fact that the City is willing to look at current trends and allow a compatible recreational use in a compatible recreational location, without detracting or taking away from the beauty of the park. Yeah! Dog park!
