Dexter
My family suffered a loss this morning. Our beloved dog Dexter, the first dog my husband and I adopted from Star City Greyhound Adoptions, passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm. The brain injury happened yesterday afternoon and we had no warning that anything was wrong. Despite a night in critical care, the doctor could not bring our sweet boy back to us.
We are heartbroken.
Dexter, or as we often called him Dexter Doggy Dogg or Triple D, was an awesome dog, and we felt so lucky to have him in our family and forever in our hearts.
I will write more about this when I can think more clearly, but for now this blog and the column are going to take a break.
Thanks so much for all the support.

Nona, Sorry to hear about Dexter. My heart goes out to you and your family.
I am so sorry to hear that Nona. All of us pet lovers know what you are going through right now. It sounds like Dexter had a wonderful life after you rescued him so hopefully you can take comfort in that knowledge. Nothing will make you feel better right now but all of us bloggers are with you and Phil in spirit.
That’s so sad, you have our condolences. May Dexter be up at the great dog park in the sky.
Oh Nona, I’m so very sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
God speed, Dexter. Your beloved family will see you again one day over the Rainbow Bridge.
Thinking of you Nona
So very sorry to read about Dexter. My family also lost a companion, friend and wonderful pet a few months ago. I’m glad you have lots of memories to comfort you. Many will be remembering you and family in our thoughts.
Nona, I am so sorry about Dexter. He was a wonderful dog. You and Phil gave him a home filled with love and attention, and I’m sure that in the short time you had with him, he was loved much more than many dogs are in an entire lifetime. Now he is chasing a ball in Doggie Heaven!
So Very, very sorry. Our hearts go out to you.
Nona, I am so sorry. Dexter was such a sweet, loving dog. I know how much you and Phil loved him. Keeping you all in my thoughts.
Oh Nona, I’m so very sorry for your loss. I know how much you loved him just from the stories you shared. I hope your memories of Dexter will bring you peace and comfort in the days and weeks ahead.
I’m sorry
Please let me know if I can do anything for you or Phil (I keep saying this because it’s true).
I am so sorry to hear about your Dexter. We lost our first rescue dog, Brownie, 2 years ago. It was one of the saddest things I have ever dealt with. Despite having a wonderful dog now, we think of her and talk about her every day. I know Dexter was so lucky to have you. I am sure Dexter is blessd in heaven. After all, it wouldn’t be heaven without him. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
So sorry to hear of your loss. Dexter must have been a great dog and had so much love from you. He is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for you.
Nona, may you find peace that passes understanding. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.
We are so sorry about Dexter- I lost a dog to the same thing last summer. He was literally here one second and gone the next. Take care of yourself, and hug Stormy and Coral close.
Nona & Phil – My deepest condolences. Dexter surely knew he won the “Greyhound Lottery” when he found your family. Sending much love your way (and doggie kisses to Coral and Stormy from Rudy).
Nona, so sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You gave Dexter a wonderful and loving home and I am sure he knew he was loved.
Nona, I am so sorry for your family’s loss. I know the pain, and it is horrible. Just know that Dexter is at the Rainbow Bridge, playing, happy, and listening for his humans to meet him again one day. All my sympathy and prayers.
I’m so sorry for your loss Nona. It’s always so hard when we lose one of our furkids.
Nona, I am so very sorry about dear Dexter. I know you and your family are in pain and I understand all too well. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. Godspeed dearest Dexter.
Nona, please know that we have you in our thoughts and prayers. Losing any family pet is hard, and just losing our Asher (Greyhound) last week is still weighing heavy on our hearts. You gave Dexter a loving and caring home and now he runs with the others who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Run free and hard beloved friend and companion.
Tony & Evelyn and Gang
Nona, My heart goes out to you and your family. You gave Dexter a wonderful life that many greyhounds never have the opportunity to enjoy. I understand completely your grief and my thoughts and sympathy are with you.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss of your dear sweet Dexter. Hold all your wonderful memories of him in your heart and look forward to seeing him again at the Rainbow Bridge where you will be reunited – never again to be parted. (At least that is my belief with my wonderful Furkids.)
It hurts so much to lose a pet that you love. I’m sorry that you lost your Dexter but it sounds like you had a wonderful time with him while you were together.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You and your family are in my prayers.
I am truly sorry to see that you have lost Dexter. Hugs to you and yours.
SO very sorry Nona & Phil….
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you.
Nona, I am very sorry for your family’s loss. I am shedding tears for Dexter, and sending a prayer for comfort to you.
WOW, many prayers for you and your family. I know that for some folks, including myself, the loss of a pet is like the loss of a family member. I’m so very sorry.
I want to thank you all for your prayers, kind words and good thoughts. It was a shock to lose our beloved Dexter and we are coping as best we can. It helps to know so many people care. Thanks again, Wag readers. Y’all are the best.
