Hello and happy New Year!

Kellan (top) tussles with Cosette on one of FERAL's last days at its customary space at the Valley View PetSmart. The cats have since been moved to foster care or Angels of Assisi.

OK, so I am a little late with the New Year’s cheer. It’s been a tough couple of weeks with all the holiday hoopla and work and such.

Also, and I don’t mean this to sound like a complaint, but my pets? They have not been cooperating with any giving me any blog fodder lately. We are desperately short on hilarious shenanigans, chicanery or tom-foolery. They’ve been quiet and well behaved little critters lately. If I were the paranoid sort I might think they are plotting something.

Maybe what they need is some new life around the house. I have to admit that while I was talking to Thelma Marienfeldt, the founder and director of FERAL, I was oh-so-tempted to take one or two of her playful kittens home with me. That would have livened up my sleepy crew, for sure.

If you are thinking about adding another tail to your family story, you could meet your match at the Roanoke Civic Center this weekend. Angels of Assisi will have adoptable pets there as part of the Greater Roanoke Home and Garden Show (a house isn’t really a home without a pet, am I right?)

For more information about adoptable pets at Angels, including some of FERAL’s cats that once lived at PetSmart, click here for the website. For more information about the home show, click here or check out Thursday’s Inside Out section.
