Another great book giveaway
Let’s turn that Monday frown upside down with a book giveaway. I have a couple of new titles just begging for space on your reading list.
The first is “From Wags to Riches: How Dog Teach Us to Succeed in Life & Business” by Robert Vetere and Valerie Andrews. I have always found that my dogs COST me money, so it’s an interesting thesis. Now, don’t get me wrong; my merry pack of freeloaders pay for their room, board and medical expenses in unconditional love and hours of family entertainment, so I am not hating. I’m just sayin’.
The second book is “Your Cat, The Owner’s Manual: Hundreds of Secrets, Surprises and Solutions for Raising a Happy, Healthy Cat” by Dr. Marty Becker. I came *thisclose* to keeping this one for myself, because you all know I have a lot of trouble figuring out my cat, Thai. Just the other day, as he was complaining about some unknown sleight, I reminded him that he has an abundance of food, clean water and hygienic bathroom facilities, which makes him more fortunate than HALF THE PEOPLE in the world.
He just turned up his nose and walked away. Whatever.
Since mine is a mixed household, I would like to give these books to another co-habituated home. Leave a comment about your cats and dogs and how well the do, or don’t, get along.
One random commenter will be selected as the winner on Friday at 9 a.m.

We have 2 cats (Beaux 11, Tux 9) and 1 dog (Wriggley 10). They mostly get along, but Beaux sometimes is moody. He will get into these attacking moods that will just attack for no reason. We figured maybe he needed a ‘friend’, got Tux and it didn’t work. Tux and Wriggley are buddies instead.
Beaux might be old, but is very athletic. He can jump up and down kitchen cabinets (we have 9 ft. Ceilings) and also jump across the sink above the cabinets without much clearance.
Cats have a thing with fresh faucet water. They have taught Wriggley to stand by the tub and we know that he wants water.
All of the ‘kids’ are very loving, they just get into things, causes trouble sometimes, but we love them!
I’ve always lived with cats and dogs together until now. I have three cats, but I live in an apartment and can’t have dogs. HOWEVER, I think I am finally in a position to possibly move, and when I do, I hope to once again own dogs along with my cats! Of course the dogs will be rescues. But in my experience, cats have pretty much always ruled the roost. We’ve had cats that were nonchalant about dogs and just walked under the dog’s belly and rubbed against the dog’s legs. However, although they were very friendly to the dogs, the cats always had the upper hand and were not afraid to let the dogs know when to leave them alone.
Then we’ve had other cats who did not care to associate with the dogs but did put the dogs in their place if the dogs came too close either by a swat or “the evil eye” look that cats can give so well (that evil look is usually all it took and the dogs knew not to mess around!). I’ve found the relationship between dogs and cats to be fascinating and quite comical at times! It’s amazing to see a 10 pound cat bossing around an 80 pound German Shepherd mix!
I have two cats and one beagle mix, and they get along great. A little too great, actually. Their teamwork skills are amazing when they work together to get their “people parents” to do what they want (such as get out of bed on a Saturday morning at 5 AM and feed them).
And the winner of the two books is…[drum roll]…AMY D.!
Congratulations, Amy.
